- Description:
- For Black students, scholarships help to provide relief from financial debt from their education. Additionally, many Black students suggest that the cost of a college education would be a burden for their families. Black businesses, especially those in Maine, were encouraged to offset those financial burdens which were additional burdens that existed alongside blatant racial discrimination in universities and colleges. For example, Black students were barred from living on the dormitories, Black students were denied student-teaching experience, etc.
